Chote Hazrat Ki Dargah Hyderabad

About Chote Hazrat Ki Dargah:

The Chote Hazrat ki Dargah is situated in Devan Devadi, in Hyderabad, India. The Chote Hazrat ki Dargah dates back to the period of Asif Jahis. You need to climb roughly 400 stairs or more to reach the place of worship. The Dargah (mortuary) was built in the memory of Hazrat Ali, the son-in-law of Prophet Mohammad. It is a pilgrimage center for the Muslims and is considered very sacred. A large number of Muslims flock this place to pay their offerings during the 8th and 10th day of Muharram, which is a prominent festival of the Muslims. There is an interesting story behind the building of this Dargah. Legend has it that Yakoob, a eunuch in the court of Ibrahim Quli went to a hilltop after he saw Hazrat Ali seated on it in his dreams. He noticed the impression of Hazrat Ali’s palm on a stone, which was similar to what he saw in his dream. He was surprised and got the impression carved out and installed in a shrine. An arch was then built over the spot. Later Ibrahim Shah constructed a mosque adjacent to the Dargah. An ‘Ashurkhana’, a ‘Baradari’ or pavilion and a ‘Naqqar Khana’ or a place for beating drums were added during the Qutub Shahi period.
