About Karpaga Vinayagar Temple:
Karpagavinayagar Temple at Pillayarpatti in Chettinad enshrines Lord Ganesha. This rock cut temple is one of the oldest cave temples in Tamil Nadu and it is a very popular Vigneshwara (Ganesha) temple attracting huge number of devotees. Pillayarpatti Nagarathar community patronizes this temple with pride and devotion. The presiding deity is Karpaka Vinayakar or Desi Vinayaka Pillaiyar and is a mammoth 6 feet tall idol. This temple houses beautiful rock cut images of Lord Shiva and other Gods Marudankudi Eesar and his consort Vaadaamalar Mangai. There are many ancient inscriptions found on the rocks of the temple. It is believed that the rock cut temple was established about 1600 years back.
