About Delhi Museums:

Any history and culture lover would find museums a veritable source of information and regard them probably a place of honor. It might not be possible to visit all the museums in one trip so we will list only the essential ones that are not-be-missed variety.

National Museum Delhi:

Located quite near to the India Gate roundabout, this place is a treasure trove for people inclined towards ancient India history. It is a circular building built in 1960 with an epitaph in Brahmi decorating the entrance lawns. This place has an extensive collection of excavated items from Indus Valley Civilization, even a full-fledged skeleton of a middle-aged female. The place has an entire section of bronze sculptures, each more beautiful and antique than the last. The museum authorities in the auditorium organize a film show on Indian culture daily but timings are subject to change.

National Rail Museum Delhi:

The advent of 19th century saw India running on trains so it is quite natural that we have a number of antique and diverse numbers of engines. For example, The Fairy Queen, a now toy train, was built in 1855 and stills enthralls visitors because they can take a ride on its back for a nominal maintenance charge. Other vintage engines include the Vice regal Dining Car (1889) and the Prince of Wales Saloon (1875), Maharaja of Mysore’s Saloon (1899) and Maharaja of Baroda’s Saloon (1886).

Museum of Natural History Delhi:

This place is famous for explaining the evolution of earth and its flora & fauna history in simplest terms. The Natural History Museum, located on the Barakhamba Road, is closed on Mondays. Ecology is the center of attention in this museum and the various galleries take the visitors through the scale of the earth’s natural resource. There are special film shows for children starting from 11 am to 3 pm.

Crafts Museum Delhi:

This quaint museum is located near Pragati Maidan, close to National Zoological Park. It is a charismatic retreat amidst the hurried life of Delhi. The entire place is decorated with painted mud huts with thatched roofs, terracotta horses in courtyards and actual artisans toiling to preserve some of the most beautiful crafts of India. The best part is you can buy whatever you like directly from them.

Shankar’s International Dolls Museum Delhi:

It is perhaps the only museum in Asia dedicated to costume dolls from 85 different countries. The dolls mirror the customs and traditions of the area from where they come. One can find just about every kind of a doll from the approximately 6,500 dolls, a third of the collection coming from India. It is located in ITO, near to ‘The Pioneer’s office.

By Air:

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is connected to all the important cities of the world with almost all the major international airlines operating out of here. Palam Domestic Airport connects Delhi to the major cities in India.

By Rail:

The Indian Railway with their modern and organized network connects Delhi to all major and minor destinations in India. The city has three major railway stations at New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Nizamuddin.

By Road:

Delhi is well connected to all the major cities of India by a network of highways and roads. Buses can be taken from the three Inter State Bus Terminuses (ISBT), at Kashmere Gate, Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar, as well as many starting points in and around the city, from which various state-managed and privately run transport facilities like air-conditioned, deluxe and ordinary coaches operate.
