The Nehru Zoological Park is situated in the Bahadurpura area in Hyderabad, India. You can easily reach the Zoological Park by hiring the ever-available local transport within the city. The Nehru Zoo is a big sanctuary and is a hit among kids and elders alike. One must not miss visiting the zoo, as it is a welcome change from the concrete jungle. The Nehru Zoological Park is a vast wildlife sanctuary, spread over an area of about 300 acres of land with about 1500 species of birds, animals and reptiles. Some of the popular species of animals in the zoo are the Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lions, Royal Bengal Tiger and White Tiger, Black Panther, Giraffes and Black Bears. For those who seek adventure and thrill, there is an option of going on a jeep safari in the Lion Park, which is one of its kind in Asia. The Park homes both African as well as Indian Lions. Set your adrenalin rushing by watching the Big Cats feasting on freshly hunted prey at a distance of a few feet from you! Apart from these animals, there are some rare species of birds and reptiles also. Besides the carnivores, reptiles like Giant/Star tortoises, water turtles, estuarine crocodiles in open pools, monitor lizards and chameleons, hooded Indian Cobra, Russell’s Viper, Giant rock-python, tree snakes etc are also found here. The zoo also has Elephants, Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, Zebras, American Bison, Antelopes, Black Buck, Chousingha, Chinkara, Deer, Sambar, Brow Antler Deer etc. among the herbivorous animals. The zoological park also has side attractions like a Natural History museum that displays ancient artifacts and dummies of stuffed animals that have become extinct. Also in the premises is a Nocturnal Birds park which houses rare and exotic species of nocturnal birds and animals like owls, lemurs, etc. There is also a museum dedicated to pre-historic creatures that walked the face of this planet before humans were formed. One can watch computerized dummies of dinosaurs and other pre historic creatures in this museum, which appear effortlessly real.

By Air:

Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Air Sahara, Deccan Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Spice Jet are the major domestic flights that operate here. The international terminal is called the Rajiv Gandhi International Terminal. Major international flights operating here are Lufthansa Airlines, Silk Air Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Emirates Airlines, Saudi Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines and Qatar Airlines. The airport is located at Begumpet.

By Rail:

Secunderabad, which is the co-sister city of Hyderabad, is the head office of Southern and Central railways. Besides the Secunderabad railway station there are two other railway stations namely, the Hyderabad railway station (also known as Nampally) and Kacheguda railway station. All the trains leaving from Hyderabad and Kacheguda railway station have a stoppage at the Secunderabad railway station.

By Road:

Hyderabad city is well connected to all the major states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Orissa. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has maintained a well laid out system of roadways, which connect Hyderabad to almost every city and town. Its head office is at Secunderabad. Some major national highways that pass through Hyderabad are NH – 4, NH – 5, NH – 7, NH – 9, NH – 16, NH – 18, etc.
