Sarojini Nagar Market Delhi

About Sarojini Nagar Market:

Sarojini Nagar is one the best known flea markets in India, often compared to the similar markets in Malaysia. Named after freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu, the area has government residence quarters and the markets primarily were established to cater to them. Early on it was known as Vinay Nagar market but gradually the entire area is called Sarojini Nagar in common tongue. Located in South Delhi, it is one of the hubs of the trendsetters of colleges in Delhi. The clothes here are basically export rejects and brand surpluses. You can find original Mango, Banana Republic, FCUK and J-Crew, priced very low, if you just ‘research’ around for a while. Apart from the clothes, you can pick up a variety of great value for money shoes, bags, belts and earrings. You have to be seasoned shopper or take one along to bargain and weed out second-hands while shopping in Sarojini Nagar Market. There are some shops where you can find beautiful, full length chiffon dresses apt for those pub-crawling evenings. Most of the shops are family owned, some for generations. The proper shops also house international brands but youngsters prefer the clothes from makeshift shops. The place though not exactly cheap, gives you an entire look for as less as Rs 1000 or less, if you are a good bargainer. You can always choose from a myriad variety of colours, cuts, hues and lengths. One should plan to come here on weekdays since it is less crowded then and there are more chances of shops having a bigger and superior stock. After all this when you get hungry head to Shyam Chaat Stall. This place has risen like a phoenix when a bomb in October 2005 destroyed the entire store. This only shows the fighting spirit of the Delhi residents. The chaat here is oily, greasy, spicy, but you will love it. Try the orange slush found at many shops, if you are thirsty, it will instantly refresh you without adding on much calories. The market is extremely crowded during festival season so plan your trip accordingly.
