About Munnar Trekking:

One can get the best trekking and climbing route to reach the various destinations of Munnar. The trekking routes apt for adventure tourists are Rajamala, Eravikulam National Park and Nayamakad. While trekking into these routes one can catch the finest sights of streams, lakes and enthralling landscapes of valleys. The terrain is mountainous and one can trek and camp amidst the grasslands of the Western Ghats at Munnar and among the thick evergreen canopy of the Periyar Tiger reserve. The wildlife & birds are abundant and so the bio-diversity here is mesmerizing. The forest department has made arrangements for trekking, in the Eravikulam National Park and in its surroundings, including Anamudy. Trekking is also feasible in the dense forests of the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. Further, the areas from Gap Road to Bisonvalley Spices Village, from Pothamedu, Attukad etc. to Kunchithanny spice villages are also quite appropriate for trekking. On the way from Pothamedu to 20 Acre or Kunchithanny, one can go through lush tea gardens and huge cardamom plantations. There is also a trekking route from Kodaikanal which is comparatively long and difficult. The overall experience here is entertaining.

How to Reach Munnar:

By Air:

Nearest major airport is Cochin International airport which is about 125 km away. Taxi services are available from airport to Munnar which cost about Rs 3000. Cochin airport is well connected with all major cities in India and many cities abroad.

By Rail:

Nearest rail head is Angamaly or Alwaye, both are nearly 120 km away from Munnar. Angamaly is an important rail junction in Ernakulum – Trissur route and is well connected to all cities in India. Taxi from Angamaly to Munnar costs about a minimum charge of Rs 2500.

By Road:

Munnar is connected to other cities in Kerala and Tamil Nadu by state government public transport buses, but are less frequent. Many tour providers arrange packaged bus tours to Munnar from Cochin. The charges will be about Rs 1000 per head.
